BBC Tiny Happy People - The BBC has a new UK-wide early years initiative called Tiny Happy People. There is a a website and Instagram page with a huge range of extremely useful activities, information videos, nursery rhyme clips, advice and everything a parent would need as support for their child’s development during this difficult time! There is even advice on activities to do during lockdown (for any of you at home with under 5s). Activities are divided into age range on the website and the video clips are short and really easy and accessible.
The BBC is very enthusiastic about closing the language gap in pre-school children. The organization's campaign is aimed at parents across the whole of the UK, bringing together a number of stakeholders (third sector / charities and commercial) to implement an initiative that has a simple, unified message about talking to your baby but is hyperlocal and tailored to local needs. The initiative is implemented in a variety of ways - through broadcasting (via BBC television and radio), digitally, through face-to-face delivery by frontline professionals, and through community and peer-to-peer champions.
The Welsh Government has worked closely with the BBC to trial some of Tiny Happy People resources in 2 local authorities in Wales. Tiny Happy People complements the Welsh Government's Talk to Me campaign and the Welsh Government promotes the BBC's resources through its communication channels. Caveat: Some Tiny Happy People resources are available in Welsh. However, the website is not fully bilingual. The Welsh Government continues to work with the BBC to produce more resources in Welsh.
