Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Education

The Traveller Education Service is a service provided by the local authority to support the education of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils.

The Traveller Education Service supports Gypsy, Roma Traveller and their schools by:

  • supporting the education of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils
  • helping to create a better understanding of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller culture and of issues specific to Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils, and their families
  • supporting attendance
  • supporting pupils’ development of literacy and numeracy skills
  • supporting and monitoring all vulnerable learners who are open to all, including earners from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities
  • the voice of the pupil - ensuring that Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils have the opportunity to give their opinion about learning experiences
